Living
Word Academy
Facilities and Resources
Living Word Academy is situated on 16 acres of property
near Carrier Circle just northeast of the city of Syracuse.
The larger of the two buildings houses the nursery,
pre-K and elementary grades as well as the cafeteria,
gymnasium, library, art and administrative suite. The
second building contains the middle and high school
classrooms, science, electronics and photo laboratories,
maintenance shop and Church office.
The nursery and pre-K rooms are carpeted and have plenty
of child-friendly furnishings that are both fun and
educationally stimulating. Elementary classrooms have
a traditional layout, personalized for the respective
grade level by each teacher. A full-service kitchen
adjoins the 100-seat cafeteria.
The LWA library has more than 8,000 titles, including
a continually updated reference department and an exceptionally
large selection of biographies for all levels of reading.
The gymnasium is used for volleyball, basketball, and
other sports. A wide assortment of athletic equipment
provides for such physical education programs as weight
training, gymnastics, floor hockey and scooter dodge-ball,
to name a few. Locker and shower rooms are nearby. The
gym also serves as a theater for on-stage drama productions
and music recitals. The LWA campus has a large multi-use
outdoor athletic field.
The science department has quality microscopes, spectroscopes,
spectrometers, balances, tools, chemical supplies and
other equipment geared for "hands-on" learning.
An unusually large specimen collection, from protozoas
to vertebrates, as well as cages and aquariums containing
living specimens, enhance the study of biology.
The photography lab has the capability of processing
black and white and color film and finish printing.
Electronic instrumentation and well-equipped work stations
allow those taking electronics to test and trouble shoot
electrical devices and build circuitry. Television production
is taught using the cameras and control room used to
produce THE LIVING WORD telecast. Introductory graphic
arts training is available with the aid of the Church
publication department. The maintenance shop is used
for the study of small engine and automotive mechanics.
Numerous personal computers (PC's) are incorporated
with the educational process at all grade levels. Teachers
also have use of film projectors, VCR's and other
audio/visual equipment. Electronic typewriters are available
for each student in the typing courses.
