 The India Connection
A Hindu Received Christ
From this Hindu religious background came Bro. Charles
Singh. He was born as the son of an orthodox Hindu priest
and into a fairly high caste because of this. But his
religion left him feeling empty. He saw the hypocrisy
of the religious and he hated it. As a young adult after
an attempted suicide, he became a born again Christian.
From that time forward, he knew that the Lord God Almighty
had called him to preach the Gospel. He recalls, "The
Lord chose me from a religious orthodox Hindu family.
He lifted me up from the miry clay and set my feet on
the rock to lift up his Holy name not only in India,
but to the uttermost parts of the world." Because
of his conversion to Christianity, his family disowned
him and he was forced to move out of the house as an
outcast. "My father removed my name from his list
and from the government's official records, but,
Hallelujah! I knew my name was written in the Lamb's
Book of Life," exclaims Bro. Singh.
Shortly after accepting Jesus Christ as his savior,
Bro. Singh had a vision that he was walking among the
tea fields and people were standing up saying, "Praise
the Lord." He made a commitment to God that if
he was really being called by God, he would know the
place where he was to serve, what sort of ministry he
was to do and that he would preach his first sermon
in the place where the Lord wanted him to minister.
Very soon after that, he was sitting in a small cottage
in a hill station and he was asked to preach a sermon.
He did not have a Bible yet and he knew only one verse
at the time, John 3:16, "For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
That day he preached about the love of God to a group
of about 20 to 30 people. Three families had come hoping
for a healing, and all three accepted Christ that night.
The next morning he was walking home through a tea field
and the workers were standing up from picking tea, saying,
"Praise the Lord," to him as he walked by.
That day he wrote a letter to his office saying, "I
am going to give myself to a very high calling, to serve
in a very high company with a very high salary, so kindly
relieve me."
