 The India Connection
The Land of India
India
is a land of great contrasts and beautiful variety in
its landscape. From bone-dry, sandy deserts to lush
tropical forests and grassy lowlands, and from mighty
bodies of water like the Ganges River and the Indian
Ocean to the majestic Himalayan mountain range, India
teems with natural beauty. The Himalayas are the world's
highest mountain system and rise along India's border
with China. The deserts help to form part of India's
border with Pakistan. Some desert regions get only two
inches of rain per year, while some cities get over
1,000 inches. Monsoons, winds that blow from the southwest,
bring moisture from the Indian Ocean, causing heavy
rainfall in the south during the summer. India's
hottest season is March through June with its rainiest
season in July. Most of Southern India has temperatures
80 to 110 degrees year round while Northern India tends
to be more temperate.
