VA Hospital Visitations
The visitation program at the Veterans Administration
Hospital began in 1988. Since then, many Saints in the
Church have made regular contact with patients there.
They have visited weekly with veterans of many different
wars - World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the
Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Church representatives
encourage the patients (many of whom have few other
visitors) and introduce them to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the years, quite a few have received Salvation.
People who were dying have received Christ, as well
as people with mental problems, the old, the young,
every type of person - the Lord faithfully backs up
the witnessing effort.
One man in particular had a brain tumor and had experienced
numerous operations. The brethren tried to reach him
for Christ but it was very difficult. One of the brothers
prayed, while slightly discouraged about his call, "Lord,
if I can't get through to these people, if I'm not going
to be able to reach them, then I'm not going anymore."
A week later this man got saved. (And the brother, Norm
McDonald, is still visiting the V.A. facility regularly.)
Bro. Norm recalls, "Being a part of the V.A. visitation
program has been a real blessing over the years. We
get to talk to the vets and hear about their experiences
in the wars. We go to encourage them and they've been
a blessing to us. It's a real privilege to be able to
talk to people who have protected this country's interests
over the years, but even more than that, it's been a
privilege to tell them about the Lord Jesus Christ."
