Scouting
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, & Cub Scouts
Living Word's Girl Scout and Cub Scout programs were
first organized as ministries of the Academy in the
mid-80's, with the addition of a Boy Scouts program
in the mid-90's. Since the inception of each of
these programs, the Living God has been working through
all three to enhance the lives of the younger Saints
in the Church by providing Spirit-filled brothers and
sisters who incorporate Godly principles, along with
the principles of scouting, in all their activities.
For the girls, Sister Melissa Meyer leads the Brownies
(girls in grades 1-3) and Sister Sue Cullen leads the
Juniors (girls in grades 4-6). For the boys, Bro. Eric
Stephens serves as Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 177,
which involves boys ranging from Tiger Cubs (First grade)
to Webelos (Fourth and Fifth grades). The leaders have
also organized a Boy Scout Troop (currently under the
leadership of Bro. Mark Weller) in order to provide
the boys with opportunities to continue to develop not
only scouting and leadership skills, but also their
spiritual life in Jesus Christ! The Boy Scouts program
takes boys from around age 11 through a series of advancements
requiring them to earn badges in a variety of specialties
such as citizenship, first aid, outdoorsmanship, athletics,
scholarship, and craftsmanship.

Weekly meetings during the school year provide the
perfect opportunity for young scouts in all three programs
to build friendships and have fun while creating projects,
learning skills, and earning badges. Emphasis is placed
on the importance of the Word of God in all scout activities.
Since Living Word Academy is the chartered organization
for the scouting programs, there isn't any conflict
when it comes to promoting Christian faith, virtue,
and traditional morality through them, despite the numerous
legal challenges and the liberalization of American
culture that the world faces in such circumstances.
Some of the Boy Scout outings have included going to
The Thousand Islands, the Adirondacks, and even Gettysburg
Battlefield. Weekend events or field trips for the Cub
Scouts and the Girl Scouts range from hiking, biking,
or snow shoeing at state parks to taking trips to educational,
natural, and historic sites in the Central New York
area. Young girls may dress up to attend the Ballet
or the Mother/Daughter Tea Party, while Living Word
Camp serves as a great place for many Cub Scout activities.
Concern for children from single-parent homes, or
who may have physical or learning disabilities, is expressed
through the unique love and encouragement that only
born-again Christian leaders can give to these young
children.
The scouting programs are ideally suited for promoting
the Christ-centered values and ideals of our Bible-based
Church, since they have a long history of defending
their stance on believing in God and upholding standards
of morality. To this end, every activity has as its
goal the exemplification of Christian virtue and Godly
adulthood. In all things, the emphasis for both girls
and boys is that they are all winners in Jesus Christ.
