College Age Fellowship
The late teen years and early twenties is a difficult
period for most young people, and Christians are not
necessarily exempt. Important issues must be faced regarding
career path, place of residence, handling of money,
and dating. Jobs and schooling place new demands on
schedules, while at the same time the desires of the
flesh are in high gear, drawing young people toward
the thrills and glitter of "this present evil world"
(Galatians 1:4). It truly is a deadly battle out there,
and sometimes there are casualties.
To help counter the spiritual assault, especially
prevalent on college campuses, and to instill an evangelistic
mindset in the young people, a fellowship was formed
by Bro. Tony and Sis. Janet Gray and Bro. John and Sis.
Dorothy Decker. The fellowship meets periodically to
give the college age brethren a chance to just be together
on a Saturday night and to encourage one another to
"put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able
to stand against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians
6:12). The leaders remind the young men and women that
they are "...more than conquerors through Him that loved
us" (Romans 8:37). Strategy sessions put them on the
offensive as they learn how to be more effective soul-winners.
Topics are brought up for discussion dealing with issues
previously mentioned and other areas of interest.
Bro. Ben Connor, Bro. Dan Plewak and his wife Sis.
Jenny Plewak, and several other young adults have also
taken an interest in starting their own fellowships
to work with the college-aged brethren. A time of worship
takes place with opportunities to share testimonies
or address concerns afterward.
More recently, some of the younger Saints attending
Syracuse University have gotten together with some older
Saints to begin working on a program on the college's
campus to distribute Christian literature to other fellow
students while having a chance to point them in the
direction of the merciful Savior Jesus Christ. Other
Saints have been trying to reach out to souls around
the Marshall Street area.
In a world that is filled with such compromise of
values, beliefs, and standards, it is important for
our younger brethren to take what they have learned
all their lives at the Academy and bring it with them
to the college campuses. They are encouraged to shine
forth as a powerful testimony of the miraculous work
that the Lord can do in an adolescent student's life.
