Foundations
of Faith Class
The growth of believers in Christ to where they are
grounded and settled in the Faith is a major concern
at Living Word Church. (Colossians 1:23) From that concern
has come the Foundations of Faith Class, formed in the
early 90's.
For a new believer to go on to spiritual maturity requires
first a sound footing lest he or she build in vain on
sinking sand. The class theme is Hebrews 6:1-2, which
names the fundamental doctrines of Biblical Christian
faith:
"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine
of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying
again the foundation of repentance from dead works,
and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms,
and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the
dead, and of eternal judgment."
The class is geared for anyone seeking an understanding
of these vital doctrines and principles. The emphasis
of the Spirit-filled teachers who conduct the classes
is to equip new believers with a knowledge of basic
Biblical truths to aid them in their walk with the Lord,
in understanding the preached Word, and in their own
personal studies.
In addition to the basic subject themes listed in
Hebrews 6:1-2, the class addresses the Fruits of the
Spirit, Prayer, Obedience, and the Triune Man. Students
also learn how to use Bible study helps and resources.
Classes are held at 8:45 on Sunday mornings in the
Living Word Academy's elementary building. Bros. John
Decker and Tony Gray teach the class, while Bro. John
Connor conducts classes on being water baptized. Each
of them extend this invitation: "If you are a newborn
child of God, bring your Bible and notebook and come
join us!"
